WHAT TO EXPECT
The tested area may appear red and swollen; this should typically resolve within 48 hours.
If the patch test involved a small injection under the skin, localised bruising may occur. This will naturally resolve within 1–2 weeks.
In some cases, a mild itchy rash may develop but should clear within 48 hours.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
✔ Monitor the tested area for any redness, swelling, or rash.
✔ If you experience an itchy rash, you may:
Apply a gentle emollient cream to soothe the skin.
Take an over-the-counter antihistamine if the rash is persistent and itchy.
✔ If your symptoms persist or worsen, contact your practitioner/therapist and consider seeking advice from your doctor/GP.
✔ If possible, send a photograph of the affected area to your practitioner to assist with assessment.
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
Contact your practitioner immediately if you experience:
A spreading red rash, hives, or increasing swelling—these may indicate an allergic reaction.
Seek emergency medical attention if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), including:
Facial swelling
Difficulty breathing
Widespread rash
These reactions are extremely rare, but it is important to act quickly if they occur.
