WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The tested area may appear red and swollen; this should typically resolve within 48 hours.

  • If the patch test involved a small injection under the skin, localised bruising may occur. This will naturally resolve within 1–2 weeks.

  • In some cases, a mild itchy rash may develop but should clear within 48 hours.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Monitor the tested area for any redness, swelling, or rash.

If you experience an itchy rash, you may:

  • Apply a gentle emollient cream to soothe the skin.

  • Take an over-the-counter antihistamine if the rash is persistent and itchy.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, contact your practitioner/therapist and consider seeking advice from your doctor/GP.

If possible, send a photograph of the affected area to your practitioner to assist with assessment.

WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

Contact your practitioner immediately if you experience:

  • A spreading red rash, hives, or increasing swelling—these may indicate an allergic reaction.

Seek emergency medical attention if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), including:

  • Facial swelling

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Widespread rash

These reactions are extremely rare, but it is important to act quickly if they occur.
